Friday, May 5

  • 7:00-7:45 Yoga
  • 8:00-8:45 Breakfast (Extended participants only)
  • 9:15-11:30 The Where, Why and How of Greenland Paddling (Pete)
    • Pete will start with a brief beach talk on the history of Greenland kayaking and why it is appropriate for today.  This will be followed by an on-the-water introduction to the Greenland forward stroke and maneuvering strokes.  This class is designed for beginners, but experienced Greenland paddlers are also welcome to come and help with the newer paddlers.
  • 9:15-11:30 One-on-one rolling sessions (Extended participants only)
  • 12:00-12:45 Lunch (Extended participants only)
  • 1:00-4:00 Registration (Standard weekend participants)
  • 1:00-4:00 Obedience training your Greenland kayak with a Skinny Stick (Pete)
    • This class will be about developing finesse with the Greenland paddle.  A buoy course will be set up to help fine-tune your maneuvering strokes, with an  emphasis on smoothly blending strokes.  This class is appropriate for any skill level.
  • 1:15-2:00 One-on-one rolling sessions (Extended participants only)
  • 2:15-4:00 Beginning rolling (Ed/Mike)
  • 2:15-4:00 Intermediate aft rolls Butterfly/Shotgun/Norsaq/Hand (Tim)
  • 2:15-4:00 Basic forward finishing rolls/Chest Scull/Reverse Sweep (Alison)
  • 4:00-4:45 Rolling demo (Alison)
  • 6:00-6:45 Dinner
  • 7:00-7:15 Introductions (Lakeside conference room)
  • 7:30-10:00 Group activity—Moonlight paddle/Greenland Ropes 


Saturday, May 6

  • 7:00-7:45 Yoga
  • 8:00-8:45 Breakfast
  • 9:00-11:30 Morning on-water session (All sessions are subject to change based on participants needs)
    • Beginning rolling (Alison)
    • Forward Stroke 1 (Greg/Mike): land based training and detailed discussion starting with proper paddle size, grip, leg drive, torso rotation stroke, crunch stroke, canted blade, how to extend the paddle safely for bracing.
    • Forward Strokes II- continuation of Strokes I on the water.(Greg/Mike)
    • Intermediate aft rolls Butterfly/Shotgun/Norsaq/Hand (Ed)
    • Basic forward finishing rolls/Chest Scull/Reverse Sweep  (Tim)
  • 12:00-12:45 Lunch
  • 1:00-4:30 Afternoon on-water session
    • 1:00-3:30
      • Beginning rolling (Tim)
      • Support strokes and paddling maneuvers (Greg/Mike)
        • Our initial focus will be on support strokes such as side sculls and braces, which will help you prevent a capsize.  We will then continue to fine-tune our maneuvering strokes on the buoy course.  This class is appropriate for anyone, even if you did not attend Part 1.

    • Strokes on the move -A relaxing paddle around the lake with focus on stroke refinement (Mike/Dorsey)
